Samm Stutzman is a sophomore this year at Ashland University, where she is double majoring in Health & Risk Communication and Public Relations with a minor in Psychology. Campus organizations she is currently involved in are Alpha Lambda Delta: National Honor Society for first Year Students, Hall Council, writer for The Odyssey Ashland branch , PRSSA, and AU G.I.V.S. In these organizations Samm has learned to work in a team setting and give not only her time but also her talents back to the community.
Samm has previously worked at Cabanas Island Restaurant where she was both a hostess and waitress for almost three years during her ending high school years and summer between college semesters. As a hostess Samm’s job was to greet and seat guest, set up outside lawn games, help servers and kitchen staff, along with busing tables. While serving Samm’s job evolved into taking food and drink orders, running those items, and help dish wash. During this time Samm improved greatly in her customer service skills along with learning the ins and outs of the restaurant food industry. Today Samm works on campus at both Schar Cafe and Tuffy’s Smoothies, where she is a cashier and smoothie maker. The team atmosphere of these jobs is what motivates her to be such a hard worker.
An accomplishment that Samm is most proud of is that her first semester of freshmen year she made the Dean’s List with a GPA of 3.6 and her goals for her remaining college career is to try and repeat that accomplishment for her up coming semesters.
For her future career Samm inspires to one day work for the CDC or Center for Disease Control. She would love to work as one of the Public Relations Representatives and be able to travel around the country and most possibly the world. Samm has always had an interest and passion for both the medical field and helping people. Though she has always had an interest in the medical field she was not drawn into the full medical side of the career. With discovering Health & Risk Communication at a drive-in while visiting Ashland the two seemed to fit perfectly. Samm is also very passionate with writing and would like to one day become an author or have a Public Relations position that involves writing.
In her free time Samm likes to write articles for Odyssey and go on adventures with friends and family. Over the summer Samm was given the amazing opportunity to visit Italy with some other Ashland students. There she experience many different cultures and experiences. Her passion for travel and wanting to experience new things is was drives her to put her best foot forward in everything that she does.
