Amanda J. Weed is a Visiting Instructor with the Department of Communication Studies at Ashland University, where she teaches courses in Public Relations and Strategic Communication, Organizational Communication, and Communication Research. She also serves as the faculty advisor for Ashland’s PRSSA chapter.
Amanda’s areas of research include advertising and public relations pedagogy, the benefits of interactivity in narrative persuasion, and the integration of social media in strategic communication to strengthen community relations; and she is currently completing her Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication at Ohio University. Her research has been presented at several conferences including the National Communication Association, Society for Case Research (SCR), MBAA International, and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). Her research has earned national recognition including 3rd place in the 2014 Chaffee-McLeod student paper competition of AEJMC, selection for the 2014 NCA Doctoral Honors Seminar, and publication in the Business Case Journal and the Journal of Critical Incidents. She also serves as an At Large Director for the Society for Case research, and is a former Head of the Graduate Student Interest Group (GSIG) of AEJMC.
Amanda previously taught strategic communication at E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. She has also guest lectured on the topics of personal branding, managing online brand reputation and entertainment education campaigns. In 2015, she earned 2nd place in the AEJMC Promising Professor Competition.
As a business professional, Amanda brings more than a decade of experience as a business owner of Sweet Dreams Chocolatier, brand consultant specializing in social media development for the restaurant/specialty food industry, and producer and commercial production assistant for several radio stations in the Columbus market. In 2015, she earned Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America.
When not teaching, Amanda enjoys creating new recipes for her chocolates and cheesecakes, which she often shares with her students.
